2013 Subaru BRZ

Make no mistake about it: the 2013 Subaru BRZ is one beautiful sport coupe. This new model comes to us from Subaru with plenty of help from Toyota, its automotive partner. The rear-wheel-drive BRZ features a BOXER engine and represents perhaps the most exciting affordable coupe we've seen since the Toyota Celica. Arriving this spring, the BRZ may forever change what you think about Subaru, one of the most successful small automakers in the world.

Subaru has outfitted it new 2+2 coupe with a 200-horsepower BOXER engine. That port-injected four cylinder engine is paired with a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission or an optional adaptive 6-speed automatic transmission with sport model and paddle shifters. Either way, you get a car that is fun to drive, one offering a limited-slip differential and a sport-tuned suspension with double wishbone rear architecture. Riding on a 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, the BRZ also comes equipped with HID headlights.

Two Editions

The 2013 Subaru BRZ will be sold in Premium and Limited editions. The Premium edition offers cloth upholstery, an integrated 8-speaker audio system with GPS navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port, high-definition radio and SiriusXM satellite radio with NavTraffic.

Choose the Limited edition and you'll find such luxury highlights as leather/alcantara upholstery, keyless entry and start, heated front seats, heated side mirrors, fog lights, a trunk spoiler and automatic climate control. Further customization seems likely with a host of aftermarket parts developed for this special car.

BRZ Dimensions

The Subaru BRZ will be the only rear-wheel-drive model in the Subaru line up, car line that currently features all-wheel-drive models only. This model sits on a 101.2-inch wheelbase and is 166.7 inches long, 69.9 inches wide and 50.6 inches tall. Its engine produces 200 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 151 foot-pounds of torque at 6,400 rpm. This model offers 215/45R17 sport tires to hold its aluminum-alloy wheels and features MacPherson struts with the front suspension.

Limited Availability

As desirable as the BRZ is to many people, Subaru is only making 6,000 copies available to U.S. drivers this model year. Increased capacity seems likely, but these limitations are likely to drive up the vehicle's price which reportedly will start at around $24,000. No matter, getting behind the wheel of one will give drivers a vehicle that offers the looks, raw power and cabin amenities that they desire.
